LAkeline
Exhibition in Hordaland Kunstsenter, 05.02.22 - 06.03.22
The surface of a lake can be wrinkly with patterns and waves, or it can be like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding landscape and colours in the sky. The surface of a lake is also a membrane: concealing unknown depths and possible creatures.
Patrícia’s work is a continuous dialogue between solids and liquids, between physical and digital practices. A tension between precise fabrication and experimental accidents exists in the digital space as well as in the glass workshop.
Virtual reality modelling, digital tracing, 3D printing, CNC and laser cutting are techniques integral in the production of Patrícia’s new works. After a digital pre-phase, she casts forms in glass or metal through a controlled process where fluid, luminous mass is transformed into solid and opaque form.
Landscapes and natural phenomena are main starting points for the artist. The installation in Hordaland Kunstsenter’s project space is comprised of a large series of works based around abstracted cartographic outlines of lakes. Working with the contours of such water surfaces and looking at lakes from a birds-eye point of view, Patrícia creates a suggestion of what is hiding underneath.
The sculptural objects and VR simulation presented in Lakeline compose a landscape in themselves, one of abstract shapes in a wide variety of colours and consistencies – exploring how form, color, and texture can evoke the translucency, plasticity, and ephemerality that glass and water have in common.
The VR works in the exhibition are made in collaboration with Dávid Kurinec.
